A passion for Newspapers

"You can grab it, hold it, read and save it. Unfold it where and when it suits you. A newspaper that brings the news with extra value, no matter how big the digital consumption may be, is still a much loved medium. We believe that the printed news, the information, the advertisements and the backgrounds and lifestyles, are indeed both seen and read by the target group it was meant for. We select the best path, with the most appropriate style, at the right moment. Share our passion and experience the power of the newspaper!"

"Most of our customers are looking for a unique approach in communication" Hans Emmelinck, the technical director, proclaimed. "This explains the extremely wide variety of jobs we print, which demands a lot of flexibility in the preparation and set-up of two web offset printing machines. Both web presses, the Universal 70 and the brand new Goss FPS (Flexible Printing System), are running in three shifts, very often at full capacity. This is thanks to the variety of high run periodicals and smaller newspapers we handle. The different sized jobs means we can plan the two presses for optimal usage of the web width. The ultra modern Goss FPS press is capable of switching printing cylinders to produce different size newspapers and even swop from cold set to heat set web printing if needed. We are well equipped to handle all future demands of our customers.

The fully automated newspaper data workflow is managed by Agfa's :Arkitex software. Agfa is the leading prepress system solutions provider and we are always in dialogue with them about new software upgrades or new technology. The :N92-VCF offset plates are imaged by two :Polaris XTV engines equipped with the :VXCF 85 clean out units.
These plates do not need processing in the classic sense with an alkaline plate developer. They are simply cleaned out with a gum solution. This explains their unmatched consistency in quality. The :N92-VCF plates run on press using Agfa's dedicated :Antura Fount solution. On average we handle almost 400.000 plates per year.
We were the first company in Holland to adopt chemistry free Violet plate technology. This has allowed us to lower the plate production waste quantity by 70% with the related reduction in equipment maintenance. In the meantime we are already testing Agfa's next generation chemistry free Violet plate, the :N94-VCF.

Our current goal is to strengthen our commitment in delivering sustainable products. We have already acquired an FCS (Forest Stewardship Council) certificate for printing on recycled paper and intend to reinforce our sustainability efforts with the new chemistry free :N94-VCF plate."
At present we print around 140 different titles including a number of local newspapers and periodicals at high run lengths, and also quite some smaller, response type and anniversary newspapers. Everything in and around this 128 year old family business is built around our passion for newspapers. We nurture the old fashion love for the craft of printing and our mission is to build a partnership with customers based on reliability, flexibility and quality.
We aim to accomplish this, by investing in expertise, technology and sound customer relations.
As a result we are able to offer every customer a printed piece that accurately reflects his communication objectives. We have a very strong passion for newspapers and any other kind of printed paper. That's what makes F.D. Hoekstra Boom and Veenstra & de Vries unique!"
