DG3 cut energy, waste and costs with Azura TU

Following the acquisitions of Sterling Financial Print and Moore Print together with the centralisation of litho production at the Gillingham site, DG3 has become one of the largest users of Azura TU in the UK, imaging over 90,000 plates per year.

DG3 is a leading global communications advisor and solutions provider to some of the world’s most prestigious and influential organisations. For over 30 years it has have marketed its services to a diverse base of blue-chip customers in the financial, corporate, pharmaceutical and academic market spaces and it serves these customers on a global basis from wholly-owned operations in North America, Europe and Asia.

“We are an international company and it is vital that we work closely with our suppliers to achieve the production levels we require as well as limit our company’s impact on the environment. Agfa Graphics has helped us achieve this and the Azura TU offset plate has proved to be a valuable investment,” commented Barry Page, Director at DG3.

The volume of plates and short run nature of the majority of DG3’s print work was a factor against an on-press processed plate. With Azura TU the image is fully developed when leaving the platesetter which helps to avoid mistakes when making ready. This new plate technology has also eradicated the need to dispose of waste developer as well as the task of cleaning a conventional plate processor.

“The use of developer and replenisher has been eliminated entirely and mains water has been cut by 640,000 litres. Added to this, processor maintenance has been reduced by 87% and waste collection by 95%,” said Dax Britton, Pre Press Manager at DG3. “Thanks to Azura, we have a significantly cleaner plate operation at Gillingham and it is a step forward in terms of environmental performance to improve our eco profile. With every decision we need to demonstrate to our customers that we take the environment into consideration, whether that is our investment into CtP or buying vans,” explained Barry Page.

DG3 joined Agfa Graphics in Azura’s 10th anniversary celebrations. Barry Page of DG3 with Nick Lazell of Agfa Graphics.
