Apogee workflow at Onlineprinters

A perfectly integrated total package

Mr. Martin Betz
Technical Operations Manager

Neustadt an der Aisch in the heart of Middle Franconia is home to one of Europe’s top five printers. Originally founded as “Druckerei und Verlag E. Meyer GmbH“ in 1984, the company became known as in 2004, and was renamed Onlineprinters GmbH in 2008.

With annual growth of 30%, Onlineprinters proves that it is on the right track. Today 350 employees in production and sales offer the full product line of a modern online commercial printer. The products are sold to more than 250,000 business and private customers in 31 European countries. "Printings simply ordered online", is the slogan. To highlight this international focus, the company has created its own websites for the UK, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Austrian markets.

Compliance with high quality standards is demonstrated by certifications such as TÜV seal s@fer-shopping, EHI Euro Label, Trusted Shops, Process Standard Offset (PSO), FSC® and PEFC certified print service provider.
The printing plates for its eighty or so offset printing units are produced on five Avalon platesetters of Agfa Graphics. The eco-friendly and stable properties of the Agfa Graphics Amigo TS plates used for this purpose optimally fit into Onlineprinters' challenging environment.

In addition to conventional offset printing, the product range includes 2 HP Indigo 7500 digital printing machines, as well as large format digital printing, latex printing, UV printing and textile printing.

The choice for Agfa Graphics Apogee Prepress workflow in 2005 is constantly confirmed by the systematic further development and easy scalability of Apogee. High user friendliness and the clarity with which day-to-day jobs are managed provide an efficiency which enables Onlineprinters to process large order volumes rapidly and cost-effectively. "It's a perfectly integrated total package that never fails to impress us", says Martin Betz, Technical Operations Manager at Onlineprinters.

A decisive factor for investing in the HP Indigo 7500 digital printing machines was the fact that they can also be driven by Apogee Workflow via the Digital Print Link function. This hybrid concept is especially interesting for brochures and catalogs where e.g. inside pages are produced in offset printing and the covers in digital printing.
The use of an identical RIP for both output channels ensures that color management, transparencies, etc. are rendered exactly the same, regardless of whether offset or digital printing is used. The Digital Print Link thus allows a product to be processed with two output processes as a single job, which also proves very useful in combination with the InkSave module. A major advantage here is that InkSave can be set individually for different printing types (e.g. offset in/digital out). The simple and clear setting options of Apogee help keep the preparation and organization processes lean and effective. Products that are produced using the Digital Print Link include calendars, leaflets, catalogs, ring binders, stickers, manifold business forms, folded cards, stationery, business cards, event tickets, flyers and posters. Complex digital printing jobs are produced via Apogee, simple jobs can of course also be processed directly.
Mr. Martin Betz, Technical Operations Manager at Onlineprinters GmbH says "In such a complex environment a reliable service is obviously of vital importance and while failures can of course never be repaired quickly enough, Agfa Service has always proved to be a fast and competent partner".

The APOGEEnetwork with the integrated Apogee User Forum where users can share and exchange the latest information on Apogee is certainly enriching.
