Printsphere – How It Works

PrintSphere is a cloud service that makes it easy to store and access data online. It enables print service providers to share files, facilitate data exchange with customers and automate their workflow. PrintSphere can be used as a stand-alone solution but it offers integration with Agfa Graphics workflow solutions such as Apogee Prepress, Asanti, and StoreFront.

You can access PrintSphere using your current web browser on a desktop system as well as a mobile device or tablet. There is a dedicated app for Android and iOS devices.

Once logged in, you see your own folders and files, as well as the data that others shared with you. To upload or download files, simply drag and drop them on the browser window. It’s so straightforward that even occasional users will immediately get to grips with PrintSphere’s easy web interface.

Sharing files or folders is easy as well: just click the ‘Share’ icon and either share the data with other users or create a link that can be e-mailed to your colleagues or customers. Those users do not need to have a PrintSphere account to access the shared data. They get access by simply clicking the link in the e-mail message they receive.

Shared folders are an excellent alternative to FTP, which is an unsecure protocol that many find cumbersome to use. The PrintSphere activity log informs you who uploaded, downloaded or modified shared files and folders.

Another useful way of accessing data is offered by the built-in image viewer. It comes in handy when PrintSphere is used by your design or prepress team to share the artwork of magazines, newsletters, catalogs or other publications.

For assets that are updated regularly PrintSphere can store older versions that you can revert to if needed. This is another useful feature in a publishing environment.

You or customers who make regular use of PrintSphere benefit from installing the PrintSphere desktop client, which is available for Windows and MacOS. It synchronizes folders on the  local system with PrintSphere. This application can also be used to distribute data between production facilities or to share files with subcontractors.

PrintSphere integrates with other Agfa software solutions such as the Apogee Prepress workflow for commercial printers or the Asanti workflow for the sign & display market. These workflow systems have dedicated links to communicate directly with PrintSphere.

This means a prepress operator can invite users to submit pages or artwork directly to the right job in the workflow system. Saving time and eliminating manual job updates are essential for meeting today’s tight deadlines.

Using the automatic data synchronization also makes PrintSphere a perfect tool for newspapers using Agfa Graphics’ Arkitex workflow. Submitting data to remote sites or uploading files to the web portal has never been easier.

The StoreFront web-to-print solution can also make use of PrintSphere as a data storage solution. Image libraries hosted on PrintSphere can be used in an online store to customize posters, leaflets, data sheets or flyers.
